FAQs

What grades are you enrolling for the upcoming school year?

We plan to serve two cohorts for our first year of school: K-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade. Students will be taught on-grade level in a mixed grade classroom. We hope to expand more grades in the future!

What schedule will REC follow?

The traditional 5-day, 8-hour school model was born during the Industrial Revolution—not because it was best for children, but because it served society’s needs at the time. Rooted Ed takes a different path.

Rooted Ed has school in-person, four days per week from 9 am until 2 pm. We are a “cooperative” education program, meaning we do not provide all hours required by the state of Kentucky. Of the 170 days required, your student will be in-person at Rooted 150 days. The remaining days are considered “parent partnership”. We provide a curriculum guide for how you can support your child from home.

Where is the REC building?

Great question! Our site location has not yet been determined. We anticipate the location being in Frankfort or nearby proximity.

While we continue to pray about the specific location, we ask you to join us in praying for the perfect location. We envision large, open classrooms with lots of natural light and outdoor exposure. Know the perfect place? Reach out to us today!

What is the financial investment per student?

While we do not yet have a permanent building, and therefore cannot set tuition with complete certainty, our commitment is clear: we will keep costs as low as possible while ensuring that our teachers, aides, and staff receive fair, livable wages that reflect their value.

Our Board of Directors is working toward a tuition rate of approximately $6,500 per student per academic year. Final tuition will be established before any family is asked to make a formal commitment.

Tuition will include:

  • In-person instruction 4 days per week

  • Parent-partnership curriculum

  • Collaborative field trip opportunities, including summer events

  • Family fellowship events

  • One optional coop trip (expenses not included) per year

How to grades and transcripts work? What paperwork is involved with the state?

Your student will be registered with the state of Kentucky as a “homeschool” student. At the start of each school year, we will provide each family with a letter to submit to their local superintendent, reporting your child’s academic status in compliance with state requirements.

Families will receive a complete set of records, including a transcript, attendance, skills assessments, and standards-based grading reports, for their own files. If your child ever needs to enroll in a different school or academic program, these records—along with documentation from your parent-partnership participation—will be fully sufficient to demonstrate academic progress.
