From Desks to Dirt
Welcome to Called Out of the Classroom — I’m so glad you’re here.
After over 15 years in education — teaching, leading, and most recently serving as a school leader — I’m stepping into a brand new chapter. One I never expected, and yet one that feels like an undeniable calling on my family.
This blog is the beginning of that journey — my yes to a calling that’s been stirring quietly in my heart for months, maybe even years.
The Quiet Shift
For most of my career, I believed I would retire in a school hallway. I loved the busyness and excitement of the academic year, the structure of a well-run school, the ministry of loving students and seeing them come to know the Lord. I still believe in the value of education. I still believe in teachers. But something started to shift.
I began to notice how my own children were learning — or struggling to learn — in traditional settings. I saw how little time they spent outdoors or with access to sunlight. How their hearts sometimes felt rushed, or their bodies overly tired. In prayer, I kept hearing one thing:
There’s another way.
And I’m being asked to find it.
God began calling me out — not just out of a job, but out of a way of thinking. Out of security and predictability. Out of the classroom.
What’s Ahead
I’m preparing to homeschool my children — not out of fear. Not to recreate school at home, but to reimagine learning entirely. I want to build something rooted in wonder, curiosity, creation, and Christ.
We don’t have all the curriculum picked out yet.
I don’t have all the answers.
But I have peace — and that’s something I haven’t felt in a long time.
Called Out of the Classroom will be my space to share that unfolding story. The fears. The beauty. The things I’ll learn (and unlearn) along the way. I’ll write about:
Preparing for our first year of homeschool
Shifting from structure to surrender
Embracing outdoor, hands-on learning
What it’s like to walk away from the system I once led
Following God’s voice, even when the road is unfamiliar
A Place for Fellow Moms, Educators, School Leaders.
This blog is for anyone who feels the nudge to do things differently. For parents, teachers, dreamers, and Christ-followers who want more freedom, more connection, and more of God’s presence in their family’s education.
I’m not here with a five-step plan. I’m here with an open heart and a blank page.
If that resonates with you — welcome.
